Yemen’s Houthis will limit their attacks on merchant vessels to Israel-bound vessels after a Gaza ceasefire came into effect, according to the Yemen-based Center for the Coordination of Humanitarian Operations (HOCC). The HOCC, which is the liaison between Houthi forces and commercial ship operators, said in an email to shipping industry executives dated Jan. 19 that it was ending “sanctions” against ships owned by U.S. persons or entities or Britain, as well as on ships flying the flags of these countries. “We declare that in the event of an attack on Yemen by the United States of America, the United Kingdom … sanctions will be reimposed against the aggressor,” the email said. “You will be notified immediately of such measures should they be implemented.” The HOCC said it would stop targeting Israel-bound ships “after all phases of the agreement have been fully implemented.” […]
