The Idol: Jennie of BlackPink true protagonist of the first episode

It’s been a long wait, but finally the first installment of The Idol has been aired (in Italy it airs every Monday on Sky and in streaming on NOW). And, as easily predictable, sparked a huge wave of comments on social media which, in part, are similar to those that followed its screening during the Cannes Film Festival: the work, conceived and written by Sam Levinson and The Weeknd, was not liked. The explicit contents, too many sexual references and the figures of the two protagonists, the aspiring pop star Jocelyn (Lily Rose Depp) and Tedros (The Weeknd) were not appreciated. It seems, therefore, that the public can not save anything from this series, apart from the performance of Jennie of BlackPinkin her film debut, who plays one of the singer’s dancers/best friends.

Her performance has appealed not only to fans of the group to which she belongs, but also to those who saw her for the first time in the series. Reaction that, surely, will have pleased the singer who she eagerly accepted this role because Jocelyn’s story reminded her, in part, of her own because, like her, she started her career when she was very young. Acting has also been a big challenge for her since it meant testing herself with something that made her very uncomfortablebut she managed to overcome her limits also with the help of the director, Sam Levinson, and of all the cast who never stopped supporting her during production.

But I am convinced that Jennie will also remember this experience for a detail that has not escaped the most attentive fans. The director wanted to create a kind of bridge between The Idol and his Euphoria thanks to a cameo from Alexa Demie who, in the second, plays Maddy. The actress is seen appearing in a scene of a few seconds while she, in the club owned by Tedros, dances with Dyanne, Jennie’s character. Who knows if Levinson, with this tiny participation, doesn’t want to let us know that there will be a crossover between the two series: maybe in the third season of Euphoriawhich will be postponed to 2025, we will see the characters of the two series interact with each other and create new narrative strands.

The new episodes of Euphoria will only arrive in 2025: is it worth waiting so long?
