The ignorant fairies, the series, Ferzan Özpetek: “My dedication to the new generations”

The ignorant fairies are back. There is love (a lot), there are friends, there is Rome, but above all there is the same signature behind it. Twenty years after the success of a film that has become the manifesto of a community, the LGBTQ + (and more), Ferzan Özpetek directs her first series – eight episodes available tonight on Disney + – returning to the love between Antonia (Cristiana Capotondi) and Massimo (Luca Argentero), and the one between Massimo and Michele (Eduardo Scarpetta), and again between Michele and Antonia. What has changed? All and nothing. Because, as always, the Turkish director exalts life around death. Colorful, imperfect, changeable. As Argentero explains, shortly before the accident he will change everything, while he rides a motorcycle in the Roman night: “Death, like any end, also contains a beginning. For one story that ends, another is about to begin. And it is the story of the encounter between two people who think they have nothing in common. But then they will discover that they are very much alike ».

We laugh, we are moved a lot, there are kisses between Argentero and Scarpetta but also those between Scarpetta and Capotondi, and between Ambra Angiolini (Annamaria) and Anna Ferzetti (Roberta). Rounding out the cast: Serra Yilmaz (Serra), Paola Minaccioni (Luisella), Burak Deniz (Asaf), Carla Signoris (Veronica), Filippo Scicchitano (Luciano) and Edoardo Purgatori (Riccardo). And then Mina who interprets the unreleased song Don’t throw the love away. Sunday lunches also return, noisy and affectionate, on the Roman terrace that tastes like family, one of the beautiful ones. As Serra says: «The biological family? No, ours is logical because we have chosen it ».

The director dedicates it to the new generations: “Today’s young people are much more open than we are, even than me, who told this story twenty years ago. They look at the others from the waist up, and therefore where there is head and heart. Nothing else matters”.
