The IMF considers that French GDP growth in 2022 will be 2.5% and in 2023 0.75%

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has maintained on Monday its forecast of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for this year and next in its latest review of the French economy.

The staff recommends a modest fiscal adjustment in France of 0.25 percentage points of GDP relative to 2022.

France should start fiscal consolidation next year and put public debt on a firm downward path.

It is better to concentrate support for energy in France by accelerating the removal of price controls and increasing aid to those most in need.

The French budget deficit is expected to fall over the medium term, but to remain above its debt stabilization level.

At time of writing, EURUSD is licking its wounds around 1.0235, down 0.85% on the day. The flight to safety induced by Chinese restrictions is sending the dollar soaring so far on Monday.
