• 20: Elsa SOARES, 91, the black diva of Brazilian song. One of the most iconic samba singers, who recorded 36 albums and sang at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Brazil Olympics.
• 20: ‘MEAT LOAF’ (Marvin Lee DAY), 74, American rock star, famous for ‘Bat Out of Hell’, one of the best-selling albums of all time.
• 23: Thierry MIGLER, 73, French fashion designer.

• 2: Monica VITI, 90, Italian star and muse of Michelangelo Antonioni.
• 10: Luc MONTANIE, 89, French virologist, Nobel laureate in Medicine for the discovery of the HIV virus.

• 16: Rosario IMBARA, 95, iconic Mexican human rights activist.
• 17: Katrin SPAAK, 77 years old, Belgian-Italian actress, stalwart of Italian post-war cinema.
• 17: Radu LOUPOU, 76, Romanian pianist, classical music legend.
• 19: Kane TANAKA, 119 years old, Japanese woman who was officially recognized as the oldest person in the world. Kane Tanaka was born on January 2nd, 1903 in Fukuoka (southeast Japan). That year the Wright brothers made the first powered flight and Marie Curie became the first woman to be awarded a Nobel Prize.
