The imposition of an embargo on Russian oil by the United States during the day

The United States is expected to announce a ban on Russian oil imports later in the day, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.

Earlier, Democratic Sen. Chris Koons told CNN that the White House was working closely with US European allies on the issue.

Mr Koons had said the announcements were expected today or Wednesday at the latest.

According to Bloomberg, the embargo will apply to Russian oil, liquefied natural gas and coal. At the same time, it is noted that the decision was made in consultation with the European Allies, which rely more on the Russian energy than the USA, a source told the agency.

The United States imports about 700,000 barrels a day of Russian crude oil and petroleum products, according to the Energy Information Administration.

“The EU will decide together”

Earlier in the day, the French government said the European Union intends to remain “united” on the issue of an embargo on Russian gas and oil, stressing that France is urging the United States to act “in coordination” with its partners.

French Ecological Transition Minister Barbara Pompili, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, is expected to meet with US Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm in Washington on Thursday.

“We are asking for some coordination,” the minister told AFP.

“We understand the American position,” but “it is not at all in the same energy state as us,” the source said.
