The incredible story of the girls who confused them in the maternity hospital but grew up as twins

A fascinating story sees the light of day starring two young women, who were mistakenly confused in the maternity hospital where they were born and ended up growing up as sisters from their families.

This unique journey is narrated by a book and a movie that are expected to be released.

The confusion in the maternity hospital in Sicily as a result, Caterina Alagna and Melissa Fodera, 23, both did not grow up with their biological mothers.

But when they were 3 years old, Marinella Alagna, picking up Melissa’s daughter from daycare, was troubled by the shocking resemblance of another child, Caterina, to her other two daughters.

The families finally learned the truth after a DNA test. But after a long time, the biological mothers Marinella and Gisella Fodera, 47, chose to raise them together.

They got to the point of moving to the same house in an effort to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible.

Mauro Caporiccio, author of “Sisters Forever,” this week’s RAI TV movie, told The Times: twins and there is a love that unites the two families “.

Caterina and Melissa were born 15 minutes apart in the same hospital on December 31, 1998, but were mistakenly confused by the nurses, who were also celebrating the new year.

Despite the fact that the mothers pointed out to the hospital staff that the baby they were holding was wearing clothes they did not recognize, the nurses assured them that there was simply a mistake in the clothes.

Three years later, Marinella saw Caterina in daycare. “I recognized Caterina’s mother, Gisella Fodera, from his wing maternity hospital and I began to have suspicions. 15 days later we did a DNA test and I was shocked. It was surreal, it was impossible. “

Mothers were initially opposed to the idea of exchanging children, with Gisella stressing the difficulty of raising a daughter for three years and then telling her to give it back – all for a “simple mistake”.

The two women eventually agreed to do the exchange over time. To do this, the children spent time with both parents. At one point both families lived under the same roof.

The most difficult moment, however, had not yet arrived. Experts suggested the two families spend some time apart to give the girls a chance to adjust to their biological families and new way of life. “The two mothers cried on the phone and talked every day. “After three months we decided we could not, we met and promised never to divorce,” Marinella explained. “After that I saw Melissa every day. How could I not do it? I breastfed her, I taught her her first words. “We had to share everything.”
