The best car of the year was chosen at the international competition World Car Awards 2021. It was the Volkswagen ID.4, the first crossover and second model in the German brand’s electric lineup, released last year. This prestigious award is presented by a jury of over 90 journalists from 24 countries. Only those cars with a production volume of 10 thousand units or more are evaluated in the competition.
Representatives of the auto concern noted that this is not only the success of the entire team that worked on the car, but also international recognition of innovative ideas and solutions. The Volkswagen ID.4 is the first model in the range to hit key markets in Europe, China and the United States, and the first crossover to be based on the MEB platform.
First of all, the jury noted the environmental friendliness of the Volkswagen ID.4 and the technologies implemented in it, including the advanced head-up display with augmented reality function (optional), which displays the main information from the on-board system and the direction indicators of the navigator on the windshield. Starting at a certain speed, the head-up display highlights the vehicle ahead. The function works when cruise control or Travel Assist is activated.
Another feature of the Volkswagen electric crossover is the ability to update the vehicle software “over the air” and thus connect new functions. This summer the company will provide such a service in the mass segment.
Volkswagen ID.4 was well received not only by critics, but also by buyers. In this regard, the company intends to sell about 150 thousand copies of this model around the world this year. The future plans of the brand are to launch at least one fully electric car on the market annually.
