The International Criminal Court is sending a large team of investigators to Ukraine

The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) today announced the deployment in Ukraine of a team of 42 investigators and experts, in the most important mission in terms of personnel ever sent on the spot, to investigate the crimes committed during the Russian invasion .

“I confirm that today my office sent a team of 42 investigators, forensic experts and other support staff to Ukraine,” Karim Khan said in a statement, adding that this was “the most important mission in terms of potential that has ever been developed on the ground in a single time “.

The ICC prosecutor, created in 2002 to try the worst crimes in the world, launched an investigation into reports of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine on March 3rd, after receiving the green light from some 40 member states. .

Khan traveled to Ukraine in April, mostly on the outskirts of Kiev, to Bhutan, where at least 20 bodies were found on April 2.

“Thanks to the development of a team of researchers, we will be able to use the data and gather evidence of military attacks that could be crimes mentioned in the Rome Statute,” the founding treaty of the ICC said.

Hahn also thanked the Dutch government for its co-operation, with the development of “a significant number of national experts” in support of the ICC-based mission in The Hague, the Netherlands.

“Our activities in the field of investigation and forensic methodology will gain efficiency thanks to this cooperation,” he added.
