ΚΛΑΔΟΣ: Internet-of-things – Embneusys

Through their student body and participation in international competitions, Lefteris, Giorgos and Giorgos began to explore in 2016 the rapidly developing possibilities of Internet-of-Things application in the construction industry, and specifically in the field of tools and machines.

Better understanding the market problems µfrom their experience at Hilti, in September 2018 they founded Embneusys with the financing of EITDigital, in order to develop a complete solution for the monitoring of the tools and equipment of the, tools µ at the construction site, as well as the optimal utilization of the equipment within it.

The main product of the company is a complete hardware and software solution, the goal of which is to increase productivity at every construction site. The Embneusys device (dimensions 5x4x3 cm) is attached to Machines of any size and category (loader, excavator, compressor, forklift, generator). It has the ability to monitor the location of the Machine and take measurements which are converted into useful metrics after analysis in the cloud. The device is autonomous, as it operates on a rechargeable battery and transmits the collected information at regular intervals. The statistics it produces relate to the location history of each machine, as well as the duration and correctness of use, while it can also estimate the optimal maintenance moment.

Starting the pilot applications in Greece and recording the first projects in it, the company now directly targets the German market through an agreement with a large telecommunications provider. By securing new funding from EIT Raw Materials, it is developing a solution tailored to the mining industry. At the same time, the team is being upgraded, as the company’s CTO, George Kyriazidis, is now a member of the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences as a PhD candidate.

Methodology: Out of the more than 100 nominations collected by “Forbes” – either through applications of the interested parties themselves or through proposals from institutions and competent bodies – the editorial team made a first selection and came up with 50. The jury, which consisted of Mr. Spyros Theodoropoulos (CEO of Chipita), Nikos Karamouzis (former President of Eurobank and the Hellenic Banking Association, President of Grant Thornton), Michalis Bletsas (Director of Informatics at MIT Media Lab), Theocharos Filipos Capital.gr, president of Attica Publications), evaluated the 50 candidacies with scores from 1 (lowest) to 4 (highest), based on which the final ranking was formed. The order of publication is defined according to the members’ rating (from highest to lowest) and then alphabetically. Conditions for participation in the list “Forbes 30 Under 30 Greece 2022” were met by those born from 1/1/1992 onwards.
