The investigation against Trump’s business group has become criminal in nature

The New York State Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that it has informed the Trump Organization, the business group of the former Republican president. Donald Trump, that the investigation conducted against him has now taken on a criminal nature and is no longer a matter of civil law.

Manhattan Attorney General Cyrus Vance, who was elected with the Democrats, is investigating the business transactions Mr. Trump before taking over the presidency of the United States for more than two years.

“We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation (…) is no longer purely bourgeois in nature,” Fabian Levy, a spokesman for the New York prosecutor’s office, said in a press release. “We are now actively conducting a criminal investigation against the Trump Organization, in collaboration with the Manhattan Prosecutor.”

It was not possible to contact a representative of Mr. Trump’s group to comment on this announcement, AMPE reports.

Mr Vance’s office has said in a statement that it was investigating “possible widespread and prolonged criminal conduct” by the former president’s group, including tax and insurance fraud and forgery of business documents.

Cyrus Vance’s investigation began when former lawyer and Trump aide Michael Cohen was revealed to have paid before the 2016 election two women who said they had sexual encounters with the tycoon to redeem their silence.

The investigation has accelerated since Mr Trump lost the November presidential election. by his Democratic successor Joe Biden.

Leticia James, the head of the New York prosecutor’s office, also a Democrat, is leading a separate investigation into false real estate value statements by the real estate businessman’s group to secure loans and tax breaks.
