The irresistible beauty of the Burmese cat (like Karl Lagerfeld’s Choupette)

Impossible not to fall in love with the splendid burmese cat. This feline species has become internationally famous (also) thanks to the German fashion designer and photographer Karl Lagerfeld, to which the latest edition of the Met Gala was dedicated. When he was alive, Lagerfeld he adopted a female Burmese cat he named Choupette. She loved her so much that she bequeathed her a substantial fortune, as well as her personal nanny, Françoise. “Choupette has her own small fortune in case anything happens to me, she’s an heiress”explained the stylist interviewed by a French broadcaster in 2015. Today Choupette has become a real cat star, thanks to an Instagram account dedicated to her.

The legendary story of the Burmese cat

Curious to know where the Burmese cat comes from? Characterized by large sky-blue eyes and a very soft and thick beige-café-milk coat with darker paws and muzzle, this feline species has very ancient origins.

Burmese cats were said to be the faithful companions of the priests of the temple located on the Mount of Lugh in northern Burma centuries ago. Hence the definition of “sacred cat”. It is not known exactly how, but some specimens of Burmese cats reached France during the 1920s. With the outbreak of World War II, however, only two specimens survived in Europe: a couple named Orloff and Xenia de Kaabaa, both belonging to the musician Baudoin-Crevoisier. The foundation of the Burmese breed therefore took place in post-war France thanks to the litters of this couple.

Today a Burmese cat specimen is sold for no less than 700 euros. And if you are wondering what his personality is, know that he is described as sociable, docile, a lover of children. Loyal and playful, he is perfect for families.
