The ISS orbit will be raised by 1.6 km for the Progress MS-20 space truck

Roscosmos announced the next correction of the ISS orbit, which will be made on May 14. This time, the goal of evading space debris is not worth it – the orbit needs to be adjusted to create ballistic conditions for the launch of the Progress MS-20 cargo ship. It is scheduled for June 3rd.

“The next correction of the International Space Station’s orbital height is planned for May 14, 2022 in order to form ballistic conditions before the launch of the Progress MS-20 cargo spacecraft”– noted in Roskosmos.

To ensure the correction, the engines of the Progress MS-18 cargo spacecraft docked to the ISS will be used. They will be turned on at 21:20 Moscow time and will work for 546.8 seconds. “After the corrective maneuver, the average height of the station’s orbit should increase by 1.59 km and amount to 418.07 km”– reported in Roskosmos.
