The 37-year-old Italian citizen recovered after 10 months of being in a coma. She fell into this state in the seventh month of pregnancy after a heart attack, according to the BBC.
In July, pregnant Christina Rosie suffered a heart attack. She had an emergency caesarean section. However, the woman fell into a coma with suspected brain damage.
Now she regained consciousness and uttered her first word: “Mom”. This was told by her husband, who, together with his mother-in-law, was all the time at Rosie’s bedside.
“We did not expect this, it was a real joy after so much suffering,” said Gabriele Suchci.
His wife was transferred to a clinic in Austria in April for specialized care. Her treatment abroad was funded by a crowdfunding page that raised over € 170,000 for further rehabilitation, including physical therapy.
“Christina is hard to recognize right now,” Gabriele said.
Their newborn daughter spent several months in the hospital due to lack of oxygen during childbirth.
