It was the summer of 2020 when i The Killers, past the first pandemic wave, released their sixth studio album, Imploding The Mirage, a energy discharge perfect to greet their return to the stage after months of silence. Due to the rise of the infections, however, the speakers remained off and the wait for live performances continued. To date: the June 21st at the San Siro Hippodrome, as part of the Milan Summer Festivalthe Las Vegas band will finally be able to perform in front of theirs Italian fans, recovering a concert two years ago: «Finally everything is ready to celebrate our return», The drummer revealed in a video call Ronnie Vannucci Jr. and the frontman Brandon Flowers. “We played a bit in Mexico, wherever people want to go back to sharing emotions.”
What concert will it be? Will there be big hits in the lineup?
«Of course, I think it’s important to repay the public who buys the ticket with the songs they want to hear: I guess Mr. Brightside or Somebody told me. Songs that fans are very attached to: then we’ll focus on Imploding the Mirage, which is perfect to be played live. It will be awesome”.
Unlike the last record, Pressure Machineso?
«We wrote it with another intention, I think it is not suitable for large locations. Better in a theater or in a small room ».
Among other things, the Deluxe version was also released in March.
«We wanted to show people what happens in the studio and how much a song can have various facets: many songs, in fact, we already had them in different versions. Compared to the sound they came from, to tell those stories we needed another approach ».
Here, in fact: in Pressure Machine there is a return of Brandon to the town of Nephi, Utah, where he spent most of his childhood.
«It was enlightening to discover how much that place had marked me: I spent over five years there, but I never went back and I never thought of writing about it. The desire to go to Las Vegas had taken over, but then I realized that I had never talked about that period, I avoided it ».
Did he break a taboo?
“Let’s say I discovered characters and stories that had a really profound influence on my life. I carried everything inside, without realizing it: it was like going back to the first album, I had so many things to bring out ».
On the return of rock, however, what do you think? Our Maneskin I am an example.
“When someone picks up the guitar, we like it. It is a beautiful trend that we hope will continue and that other young people can take a cue ».
Finally, what are your plans for the future?
“We started working on a new album, mastering tracks in the studio with Stuart Price and Shawn Everett. To tell the truth we are already well under way, the hope is to have a single ready for the summer ».
During which, in the meantime, we can return to sing at the top of our voices in front of the boxes.
