The French film “The King’s Favorite” which marks the return of Johnny Depp 61, on the big screen after facing problems in court, wins special exhibitions in Brazil starting this Thursday (7). The title is on the program Varilux Festival which brings French productions to Brazilian cinemas.
In the plot, Jeanne Vaubernier, a young woman from humble origins, is determined to get out of her condition, using her charms. Her lover, Count Du Barry, who benefits greatly from Jeanne’s lucrative relationships, decides to introduce her to the King. With the help of the influential Duke de Richelieu, he organizes the meeting.
Against all expectations, Louis XV and Jeanne fall intensely in love. With the courtesan’s company, the King rediscovers the pleasure of living, to the point that he can no longer be without her and decides to make her his official favorite. This causes a scandal, as no one wants a girl “from the street” at Court.
The French Maïwenn stars and directs the production. In addition to Depp, names like Diego Le Flur , Benjamin Lavernhe (“Abbé Pierre A Life of Causes”), Pierre Richard (“The Goat”) and more make up the cast.
The Varilux French Film Festival takes place between the 7th and 20th of November. The 15th edition features more than 20 films that have never been released in Brazil. The schedule may vary from region to region. Check it out on official website.
Johnny Depp removed from Hollywood
In 2018, Heard wrote a story for The Washington Post saying she was a “domestic abuse survivor.” In 2020, the actor lost a lawsuit against a newspaper that called him a “wife beater.” Two years later, the world stopped to watch the trial of the lawsuits filed by the ex-couple against each other. The court found both of them responsible. At the end of that year, Mera’s interpreter in “Aquaman” revealed that they made a deal.
During this period in which Depp was dealing with issues in court, he was fired from the “Fantastic Beasts” franchise and was left out of the third film in the “Harry Potter” universe, being replaced by Mads Mikkelsen. Now, the actor is trying to re-establish himself in the industry.
