The Kremlin turns again against the West denouncing today, Thursday (26/1) “the direct involvement” of the West in the conflict in Ukraine.
The reason for Kiev’s reaction was the announcement of the delivery of dozens of European and American tanks to Kyiv.
“There are constant statements from European capitals and Washington that sending various weapon systems to Ukraine, including tanks, does not in any way mean the involvement of these countries or the alliance in hostilities in Ukraine,” the Kremlin spokesman told reporters. Dmitry Peskov.
“We categorically disagree with this and in Moscow everything that the alliance and the capitals I mentioned are doing is considered direct involvement in the conflict. We see that it is increasing,” he added.
US President Joe Biden said the tanks were not an “offensive threat” to Russia and were needed to help the Ukrainians “improve their ability to maneuver in open terrain”.
Russia, which began the war by invading Ukraine last year on February 24, is increasingly portraying the war as a confrontation with NATO.
“The course of the special military operation in Ukraine shows that the US and NATO intend to continue to make efforts to expand this military conflict and have become parties to it,” Nikolai Patrushev, a close ally of President Vladimir Putin and Secretary of his Security Council.
Patrushev said, according to the Interfax news agency, that “even when the ‘hot phase’ of the conflict in Ukraine ends, the Anglo-Saxon world will not stop its proxy war against Russia and its allies.”
