Russia today accused the United States of adding fuel to the fire by supplying advanced missiles to Ukraine and said it did not believe Kyiv would launch them against Russian soil.
“We believe that the United States is deliberately adding fuel to the fire. The United States is clearly on the line that it will fight Russia to the last Ukrainian,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peshkov told reporters.
US President Joe Biden has agreed to provide Ukraine with advanced missiles that can accurately hit Russian targets with a range of up to 80 kilometers as part of a 700-million-euro armaments package expected today.
Meanwhile, according to Reuters, the Kremlin said today that it does not rule out a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, but that such talks need to be prepared in advance.
Peshkov told reporters that work on a peace document with Ukraine had stopped long ago and had not resumed.
Peshkov said that the people of the Russian-occupied Ukrainian territories of Kherson, Zaporizhia and Donbass must decide their own future and that the Kremlin has no doubt that they will make the “best decision”. Ukraine has previously said that annexing the territories by Russia would end peace talks between the two sides.
The Kremlin also said that the world could be on the brink of a serious food crisis, blaming “illegal restrictions” imposed on Russia by Western countries and decisions by Ukrainian authorities.
“We are potentially on the brink of a very deep food crisis linked to the introduction of illegal restrictions on us and the actions of the Ukrainian authorities who have mined the passage to the Black Sea and are not transporting grain from there despite the fact that Russia is not interfering with “No way,” Peshkov told a news conference.
