The United States continues to issue visas to certified Russian journalists and has not revoked the credentials of any Russian journalists working in the United States, the State Department said today, adding that the Kremlin was “directly attacking” the free press.
Reuters reported earlier that Russia had warned US media that their accreditation could be revoked if US treatment of Russian journalists did not improve.
“The Russian government is essentially and deliberately ignoring what it means to have a free press, as evidenced by the fact that it blocks or bans almost all independent Russian media outlets that want to report in their country,” said State Department spokesman .
