The Kremlin makes excuses for Kiev’s provocations at the Kherson Dam

The Kremlin today condemned a deliberate act of sabotage by Kiev following the partial destruction of a hydroelectric dam in Kherson, a region partially held by Russian forces in the south Ukraine.

“This is undoubtedly a deliberate act of sabotage by the Ukrainian side, which was planned and executed at the behest of Kiev,” the Kremlin spokesman told reporters. Dmitry Peskovnoting that he “categorically” rejects the accusations of the Ukrainian authorities that hold Moscow responsible for the rupture of the Kakhovka dam.

“All the responsibility lies with his regime Kiev“, he insisted Peskovadding that one of the goals of this action was to “deprive water from the Crimea“, the peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014.

The hydroelectric dam in Nova Kahovkabuilt on the Dnieper River in the 1950s and occupied since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, is critical to the annexed Crimean peninsula’s water supply.

According to Peskov, “this act of sabotage could potentially have very serious consequences for tens of thousands of residents of the Kherson region, as well as ecological consequences.”
