The Kremlin has not received any request from Ukraine in the past week to arrange a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, a Kremlin spokesman said Monday, according to Reuters, citing Russia’s Ria Novosti news agency.
The Kremlin has previously said that Putin would not refuse a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart to discuss ways to end hostilities in Ukraine.
Ukraine, for its part, has repeatedly called for direct talks between the two presidents, and Volodymyr Zelensky said Sunday that Ukrainian negotiators are trying to secure such a meeting.
Meanwhile, there is no discussion about the possibility of a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Joe Biden, according to Peshkov.
A White House spokesman said on February 22, two days before Russian forces invaded Ukraine, that a Washington summit was “certainly not in the plans” and that the situation should be de-escalated first.
