The largest forum for programmers Stack Overflow was sold to the investor Mail.ru and Avito

Dutch company Prosus has announced the purchase of Stack Overflow, a popular forum for developers and IT professionals. The resource has been operating since 2008, and today its monthly audience is more than 100 million people. The deal is worth $ 1.8 billion.

Stack Overflow is almost the first place developers and programmers go to solve code problems. You can find answers to your questions and even borrow someone else’s code for free. The founder of the resource is Joel Spolsky, who previously worked as a product manager in the Microsoft Excel team, as well as the author of the Trello scheduling software.

Prosus is a subsidiary of South African Naspers. She invests in online platforms and other e-commerce services. Prosus’ largest investments include Tencent, Mail.ru Group, PayU and OLX (Avito). Stack Overflow is the first direct acquisition of a Dutch company that it wants to use to develop teleworking and online learning technologies. The founder of Stack Overflow has already assured users that the forum will continue to work as before.

“Stack Overflow will continue to operate independently, with the same team, and in line with the previous plan. We just have new owners now. In a sense, this is the best possible outcome, ”said Joel Spolsky.
