The company calls this the largest project to protect user numbers on the Russian Internet, as its action extends to tens of millions of people. The “Number Protection” service appeared on Avito four years ago and was initially available only to sellers who placed ads in the “auto” and “real estate” categories. Now it is scaled to all private users.

When using number protection, the real number of the profile owner is hidden in ads, instead a special temporary number provided by Avito is displayed. Display numbers change periodically, making it useless for automated systems to collect data for later push-to-spam. Already during the test launches of the service, the number of non-targeted calls for accounts with enabled number protection decreased by 40%. At the same time, the number of successful transactions with sellers remains at the same level. The system remembers the “Buyer-Seller” link after the first successful call, and even after changing the displayed number in the ad, repeated calls are directed to the right person. The service also does not allow transferring communication to an unsafe environment and protects against the actions of intruders.
