Craig Mazin, producer of HBO’s The Last of Us, said the rest of the series will surprise even the biggest fans of the game, which was released in 2013.
“If you’ve played the game hundreds of times, I can guarantee you’ll be in for a treat between now and the end of this series,” Mazin said during HBO’s official podcast.
He explained that work was done so that the audiovisual production would not be the same as the game or seem made only for those who already knew it.
“We want them to be as excited as possible and that means surprising them again and again, and we’ve done that. And we will continue to do so,” he said.
The HBO series is being highly praised on social media for keeping some points from the original video game story, but it also stands out for expanding it and introducing new characters.
The third episode, for example, worked with the characters Bill and Frank, adding more context to both — in the game, Frank is only mentioned in a conversation between Bill and Joel.
The fourth chapter introduced two new characters: Kathleen and Perry, who should continue to be prominent in the fifth episode, which will air this Friday (10).
