“The Last of Us”: find out what to expect from the story of season 2

The second season of the series “The Last of Us” starring the actors Pedro Pascal (Joel) and Bella Ramsey (Ellie), has its premiere scheduled for first half of 2025 . With previews, trailer and cast already released, there is much speculation about the plot of the new episodes.

According to what was confirmed by Neil Druckmann, creator of the game “The Last of Us”, in an interview with the North American magazine Variety, the continuation of the story will be adapted from the events of “The Last of Us Part II”, by the company Naughty Dog, for PlayStation, released in 2020. The professional also stated that he will delve even deeper into what was portrayed in the game, bringing new elements to the plot.

The first season of “The Last of Us” won the title of biggest debut for a series on HBO Max. The drama was based on the first game in the franchise, which was released in 2013.

What to expect from the story of “The Last Of Us” season 2

“A plot that borders on human extinction. Twenty years after the fall of civilization, Joel is hired to take Ellie out of a dangerous quarantine zone,” says the synopsis for the first season of the series. The nine episodes were released in 2023.

The second game is set five years after the events of the first part of The Last of Us. In the plot, the player takes on the role of two protagonists in a post-apocalyptic United States: Ellie, who seeks revenge after a traumatic event, and Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) a soldier who becomes involved in a conflict between a militia and a cult.

The second season will follow the same chronology. In an interview with EntertainmentWeekly in July 2023, Craig Mazin, responsible for the script, said that the adaptation would be faithful, but without changes.

“I will never say that there are things that will happen in the series that happened in the game. You never know what we’re going to do,” he said. “But I will say there are things that are going to shock people, things that were in the game, things that weren’t in the game, and that’s okay. As long as they have a purpose, they are not simply there to shock. We are not interested in creating fear on social media. We just want to tell the story the way we think it should be told,” he added.

“I think as long as we keep doing that and we have more amazing source materials to work with, we’ll continue to adapt in the way we do, which is to surprise the people who played the game. But also, I don’t think anyone who has played the game is going to watch a second season and think, ‘Wait, what is this?’” Craig pointed out.

Druckmann told Variety that at least one of the characters will have greater depth in the series compared to the game.

“There are things in this season that I’m really excited about — things that we’ve hinted at — one scene in particular comes to mind that I think fans of the game are going to love, because it really tells a lot of the backstory of this important character that there wasn’t really a way to do. that we do that in the game.”

In addition to characters already seen in the first season, “The Last of Us” will also feature Kaitlyn Denver, confirmed as the character Abby, Young Mazino, as the character Jesse, Jeffrey Wright, who will give life to Isaac Dixon and Isabela Merced, as character Dina.
