Simultaneously with IDC analysts, their counterparts from Counterpoint published their data reflecting the situation on the global smartphone market in the third quarter of 2021.
The released report said that shipments in annual terms decreased by 6%. Despite this, the reporting period turned out to be the best third quarter in the history of the market in terms of manufacturers’ revenue. In total, 342 million devices were shipped during the quarter, and the market volume in monetary terms exceeded $ 100 billion. According to analysts, the reason for the reduction in supplies is the lack of components that the industry is facing.
The dynamics of supplies for the last seven quarters is shown in the upper diagram, while the distribution of the market among the main participants in the last quarter is shown in the lower one. The diagrams clearly show that Samsung remains the undisputed leader in terms of supply in volume terms, but in monetary terms it is significantly ahead of Apple. More precisely, Apple accounts for 37% of all revenue, Samsung for 18%. Oppo ranks third at the end of the quarter with 10%. Interestingly, in the IDC report, Xiaomi is in third place, while Oppo is only in fifth place.
