The launch of ChatGPT led to a 1265% increase in phishing attacks

Since the launch of the ChatGPT chatbot, the number of phishing emails has jumped 1,265%. These calculations were made by SlashNext analysts, writes Decrypt.

“From our research, we know that threat actors use tools like ChatGPT to write complex, targeted, compromising business emails and other phishing messages,” said the firm’s CEO Patrick Harr.

The specialist said potential victims “should go on the offensive” and “fight AI with AI.”

“Companies must embed artificial intelligence directly into security programs to continually monitor all messaging channels to eliminate threats. We use technology in discovery toolkits […] and forecasting,” the expert explained.

Harr is optimistic about artificial intelligence’s ability to catch fraudulent AIs. However, the specialist admits that it will take more than just informing ChatGPT about cyber threats.

“On top of that, you have to have the equivalent of a private application with a large language model,” he emphasized.

Anthropic, a startup that develops large language models, has introduced “constitutions” for the responsible creation of AI algorithms.

Previously, a Gartner report showed that 66% of risk managers consider generative artificial intelligence a threat to organizations.

Analysts have identified three segments that need to be kept under control in terms of corporate risk management: intellectual property, data privacy and cybersecurity.
