Appearance and ergonomics

ASUS TUF Gaming H1 design is extremely utilitarian and austere. Simple forms dominate with slightly sharpened transitions without any extraordinary solutions. The main and, in fact, the only material is hard plastic with a clearly visible texture. The cups are embellished with an embossed gloss and the inside of the headband is padded with silicone. Simple and practical.

Ergonomically tidy, the 287-gram headset rests on a resilient fabric headband without any additional adjustments. Precision fit is ensured by one degree of freedom of the cups and overall flexibility of the design.

However, for the first time I did not have enough ear pads to protrude – my ears are cramped inside the cups. As a result, the auricles are pressed down and begin to get tired quickly, after an hour or two, slight discomfort appears. The rest of the ear pads are not bad: the leatherette is pleasant to the touch, and the dense foam material insulates well from ambient noise.

Despite the simplicity of the materials, there is nothing to blame the assembly for, the structure does not emit a single squeak even under strong impact. There are screws in all critical places; the headband is most likely based on metal.

Connection and management

Connection via 3.5 mm audio jack, one combined plug is responsible for both sound and microphone. The basic status of the headset is given by a thick and not very pliable rubberized braid. You should not worry about its destruction: firstly, there is good protection on both sides, and secondly, the cable is practically weightless and does not pull the headset off. The length of 1.2 meters is enough to connect to a smartphone or laptop. In the case of a PC, you should use the complete splitter for two audio jacks, giving another 1.2 meters. The most amazing thing is that the extension cord is hidden in a fabric braid. An external USB audio card of the base model is not required, as is the proprietary software.

On the back of the left cup there is a control – the simplest volume wheel and a spring-loaded microphone switch. The wheel is the simplest analog rheostat, so the system volume is not adjustable.

Sound and microphone

The basic headset got small dynamic emitters of 40 mm in closed acoustic chambers. The sound depends more on the source. I will only note a good balance in favor of low frequencies and, unfortunately, insufficient detail. The lack is especially noticeable in dynamic scenes with a lot of effects – they all merge into a single mess without feeling layered. The headset is also well suited for listening to music.

The fixed microphone is mounted on a metal boom with a good memory effect. Finding the optimal position is not difficult.

The quality was pleasantly impressed: the voice sounds clear and loud, there is an effect of presence. All that is missing is a pop filter, which causes breath clicks on the recording. There is also a slight background hiss associated with analog interface pickup.

Feedback after two weeks of use

After meeting with ASUS TUF Gaming H1 it left an unambiguously good impression, thanks to the right balance of ergonomics, as well as a versatile sound for games and music. Materials and assembly also did not disappoint, no matter how much I tormented the headset – in response, only a feeling of solidity. To summarize, for our 3,000 rubles we have an excellent offer in front of us. Close your eyes to the rubberized wire braid.

Pros:

  • austere design with pointed transitions;
  • high-quality assembly without a single squeak;
  • lightweight and ergonomic design;
  • universal sound for video games and music;
  • very high quality microphone on a comfortable boom;
  • splitter for PC included.

Minuses:

  • stubborn rubberized braid on a non-removable wire.

May not like:

  • the sound is not detailed enough, there is no sense of layering.
