The Longest Suspension Pedestrian Bridge In The World Was Opened In Portugal: Photo

The world’s longest pedestrian suspension bridge was opened in Aroca Geopark, Portugal. Its length is 516 meters, the bridge is located 175 meters above the Paiva River, according to Reuters.

The landscape is calm, but this transition is not for the faint of heart, the agency writes. Supported by steel cables and two massive towers on each side, it sways a little when walking.

So far, the bridge has been opened only for local residents, but from Monday everyone will be able to experience it.

Locals hope the € 2.3 million bridge, which took about two years to build, will help revitalize the region, especially after the devastating COVID-19 pandemic.

Local officials say the bridge is part of a broader strategy to encourage more people to move and stay in the region. “There is no other bridge in the world like this,” said Mayor of Arok Margarida Belem.

In February, the Ukravtodor Highway Service and the Turkish company Dogus Insaat Ve Ticaret AS signed an agreement for the construction of a cable-stayed bridge across the Dnieper in Kremenchug.
