The Maneskin exhibition (with paPillon) at the AMAs

Damiano, Victoria, Ethan and Thomas continue the triumphal trip to the United States. True, this time the Maneskins didn’t bring home one of the American Music Awards but they warmed the spirits with the performance of Beggin, candidate in the Favorite Trending Song category (later won by Megan Thee Stallion’s Body).

To make, if possible, even more sensation is the look with which the band presented itself at the ceremony at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles last Sunday. He had anticipated it, indeed promised after Simone Pillon’s comments. From the MTV EMA stage, the Maneskin, holding the trophy like Best Rock just a week ago in Budapest, they commented on their disappointment over the sinking of the DDL Zan decree (“Too bad for civil rights – they said – where we continue to lag behind, it would have been the most important victory for us”). The Northern League senator did not appreciate either the rainbow declaration of the performers (labeled online as “whining”) or the look of the singer, considered too fluid (garter belt and jockstrap). According to the politician, the true style rebellion would have been quite another: “I would have expected something different, what do I know – he commented – on stage the boys in a tuxedo and the young lady in an evening dress”.

The provocative request was partially satisfied and the artists’ poker performed in coordinated suits, tuxedos and Gucci bow ties. Whether the habit makes the monk or not, the message came loud and clear.

Damiano, also on social media, had replied in rhyme: “You’re right Simo, next time complete and paPillon?”. The frontman of the Roman band was of his word: serious, indeed very serious, together with his colleagues on the red carpet, they paraded in front of the photographers in a composed and almost hieratic way. Even without fishnets and leather nipple covers, the Maneskins always manage to have their say and remain consistent with themselves.

Irony, on the other hand, is at home even on such a prestigious stage: their performance on stage was presented by Cardi B sitting at a table in front of a plate of spaghetti. Other than mandolins, however, the band was unleashed in the usual rock show inflaming the audience.
