The manufacturer admits a defect in the first batch of Sony 35mm f / 1.4 GM lenses

In January, Sony introduced the FE 35mm F1.4 GM (SEL35F14GM) full-frame lens. Then the manufacturer promised to start shipping new items worth 1,700 euros at the end of the month. However, at the end of January, deliveries were not started. Already in February, the manufacturer announced that the delivery of the lens had been postponed for “production reasons.”

Sony Asia Pacific recently revealed this reason. According to the technical support section, a manufacturing defect may occur in the lenses of the first batch. The manufacturer removes it for free, specifying that the flaw does not affect the image quality. The essence of the defect is that the decorative plate surrounding the front optical element may fall off.

You can check if there is a defect in a particular lens copy by its serial number on the company’s website. The free repair program will run until March 31, 2024. So far, no relevant information has been found on Sony’s Russian website.
