Actor Saagar Shaikh, who debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in “Mr. Marvel”, analyzed the risk his career is taking due to public statements in favor of Palestine, amid the conflict between Israel and Hamas. The interpreter of Aamir, brother of Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), in the Marvel Sudios miniseries, revealed that he is not afraid to risk his profession and that he will continue without hiding his opinion.
“I don’t give a fuck if my job is on the line, because I might get another one. I’m going to become a carpenter or something. People in Palestine are dying.”, said Shaikh in an interview with the podcast “Salaam Nerds“.
In the production in which it debuted, the characters Aamir and Kamala experience conflict due to comparisons between them made by their parents. In “The Marvels”, he and his family join Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) for an adventure across the galaxies.
In fact, the conflict between Israel and Hamas has resonated among Hollywood actors and actresses. Melissa Barrera, for example, who made pro-Palestine posts ended up fired from “Scream VII”. The franchise producer stated that it has “zero tolerance for anti-Semitism or hate speech”.
Oscar-winning actress Susan Sarandon was also dropped from United Talent Agency (UTA), which had represented her for years, for the same reason.
