The city of Massena, located on the border between Canada and the United States, has decided to temporarily ban the launch of new mining farms to “make the city more attractive” for tourists.
At the moment, we are talking about a 90-day ban on the opening of new mining farms. As Massena Mayor Steve O’Shaughnessy said, the fact is that trailers with mining equipment are flooding the surrounding area, and this makes the city’s appearance less presentable.
“We don’t want our city to be dirty with equipment trailers. If they want to mine cryptocurrency, then let them build a good, presentable structure, ”said O’Shaughnessy.
Massena has attracted miners for years thanks to a nearby hydroelectric power station that supplies cheap electricity.
Local energy company Massena Electric is currently in talks with three mining companies to host the equipment. However, the company has already introduced a ban on attracting new customers.
“For miners, two parameters are very important – cheap electricity and reliability. And we have always had these qualities, ”said Andrew McMahon, Managing Director of Massena Electric.
