Wallet provider MetaMask has issued a warning: scammers are spreading false rumors about an upcoming token airdrop on March 31st.

The MetaMask team stated that it does not plan any public promotions for the specified date, urging its customers to be vigilant when visiting dubious sites and not to believe the promises of intruders.

“These rumors are not only false, but also dangerous. They create opportunities for scammers and phishers,” MetaMask representatives warned.

According to network observers, a report from the ETHDenver 2023 crypto festival, where ConsenSys CEO Joseph Lubin gave a detailed interview, could have influenced the surge in scam activity. In an interview with journalists, Lubin said that his company is now “trying to decentralize MetaMask” and has plans to “widely distribute the platform token.”

In February, the operators of the MetaMask cryptocurrency wallet announced the start of cooperation with the Mercuryo payment system, stating that users will be able to buy currencies directly from bank accounts.
