The Microsoft Edge update broke one of the browser’s core functionality. Tabs opening on startup fail, and more

Microsoft has recently released a major update to its proprietary browser Edge 91. However, this update turned out to be problematic.

As previously reported, Edge 91 came up with an obsessive prompt to update your browser settings and switch to Microsoft Bring as your default search engine.

Now a new attack has been discovered – in the updated Microsoft Edge 91, the function of opening certain tabs when the browser starts up stopped working.

Like Google Chrome, Microsoft’s proprietary browser allows you to set up automatic opening when you launch a specific page or pages. However, Edge 91, when launched, instead of the preset pages opens a “new tab” page.

Another crash – when opening an external link from another application or a shortcut from the desktop, a blank page opens in Edge. Some users lost the “+” button to open a new tab after the update.

There were no issues in Edge 90.0.818.66, and it is no longer possible to roll back the update. However, the listed crashes occur in Microsoft Edge 91 when the Manage Search Engines Group Policy is set to Enabled. If you manually switch to Not Configured or Disabled, the browser usually opens the specified page.

Microsoft itself has not yet acknowledged the problems that users who have installed the update are complaining about. Accordingly, it is not yet clear when Microsoft will release the fix.
