The millions of dollars stolen by North Korean hackers to buy nuclear weapons

is a confidential United Nations document to which CNN had access and whose content it revealed on Tuesday, February 9: the North Korean army of hackers would have stolen millions of dollars throughout the year 2020. This money would fund North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile program.

The document accuses Kim Jong-un’s regime of carrying out “operations against financial institutions and virtual exchange offices” to pay for its weapons and keep the country’s economy afloat. An anonymous UN member country claims hackers embezzled more than $ 316 million between 2019 and November 2020.

Modernization of infrastructure

According to CNN, the report points out that North Korea “maintained nuclear facilities and modernized its infrastructure” while continuing to “seek materials and technology” for its nuclear weapons program.

The United Nations has tried for years to force the totalitarian country to suspend its nuclear and ballistic weapons programs, to no avail. With the revelation that Iran has provided “essential parts” to the development of long-range missiles, this report shows that the country’s nuclear weapons ambition remains intact.

Nuclear ballistic missiles

UN investigators report that one country, which has not been identified, considers it “highly likely” that North Korea could mount a nuclear device on a ballistic missile of any range. However, it is still not certain whether these missiles can successfully enter Earth’s atmosphere.

Details of this confidential report were obtained by CNN through an anonymous diplomatic source at the United Nations Security Council. However, the media does not know when this report will be officially published.
