The Minister of Justice of the Czech Republic Pavel Blazhek, who held this post since 2021, was forced to resign due to “dirty” bitcoins.
A series of events that led to the powers of the Blazhek began in 2017, when the Czech of Tomash Zhirikovsky was imprisoned for bars for drug trafficking on the Sheep Darknnnes-Marketplace, illegal storage of weapons and assigning someone else’s property. Four years later, Tomash was released, through the court he returned his bitcoin wallet, which stored almost 1,500 BTC worth $ 157 million at the current rate, and donated 480 coins to the Ministry of Justice.
Having received cryptocurrency from the convict, officials sold digital assets for $ 45.2 million at an auction to attract funding for digitalization of the justice system, counteracting the distribution of drugs and providing jailers with housing. The police from the organized crime department learned about this and began to conduct an investigation. Apparently, the subordinates of the blessed was suspected of receiving a bribe from Zhirikovsky or a virtual currency trade earned by illegally.
Having concluded an agreement with Prime Minister Peter Fiala, I decided to leave the post of head of the Ministry of Justice. I have no idea about any offenses committed. However, I do not want to harm the reputation of the government and the coalition of the ruling parties, ”Blazhek said.
Fiala supported the former Minister of Justice and said that he was convinced of Pavel’s good motives. Oppositionists from an ANO populist right -centric party, on the contrary, condemned the official and demanded to verify the legality of the transaction performed with bitcoins.
