The Ministry of Energy is once again trying to force miners to work only in regions with excess energy – officials have proposed significantly increasing energy transmission tariffs for industrial crypto farms.

According to sources of the Kommersant publication, now we are talking about increasing tariffs only in those regions where there is a lack of energy generation, or where miners create an excessive load on the networks. At the same time, miners in the regions most popular for cryptocurrency mining – in Buryatia, Trans-Baikal Territory and Irkutsk Region – may come under attack.

Now tariffs for electricity transmission vary only depending on voltage, but are the same for all industries. However, within the framework of the new tariff schedule, it is proposed to create a special tariff for miners. Moreover, the criteria by which miners will be subject to this tariff have not yet been determined. Their development will be carried out by the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Digital Development and the Federal Antimonopoly Service.

To identify miners in each region, commissions can be created that will determine the production of cryptocurrencies according to a smooth schedule of electricity consumption, close to maximum power. In addition, specialists will personally visit the premises of legal entities and study Internet traffic.

The publication reports that the increase in tariffs for high-voltage mining farms in the Irkutsk region could be 18-73%, up to 3.2-4.7 rubles per 1 kW per hour; in Buryatia – by 66-333%, up to 4-11 rubles; in the Trans-Baikal Territory – by 33-133%, up to 5-8.9 rubles. Such tariffs may well put an end to the work of miners.

Let us remind you that the Ministry of Energy is developing other measures to control miners. Recently, the agency proposed limiting the connection of cryptocurrency mining farms to electrical networks.
