The Ministry of Finance of Russia ruled out the possibility of selling oil for cryptocurrency

Ivan Chebeskov, director of the financial policy department of the Ministry of Finance, believes that the possible payment for international transactions with crypto assets will not affect the supply of hydrocarbons.

The official, in an interview with journalists from the RTVI TV channel, said that cryptoassets can be considered as an alternative payment option for small international contracts of private business and not touch the sale of petroleum products.

At the same time, Chebeskov explains, the Ministry of Finance proposes to use cryptocurrencies as an asset, and not as a means of payment, and to process transactions as barter – when a buyer formally exchanges bitcoins (or other cryptocurrencies) for a product or service:

“The task is to give an alternative, and not to say that now Russia is paying with crypto for everything. This is not about the calculations of the state, but only of private business, and oil with a high probability will not be sold for bitcoins due to large volumes of exports.”

According to the representative of the ministry, settlements in cryptocurrency are possible under relatively small contracts and only with friendly countries that are open to the adoption of cryptocurrency technologies.

Earlier, the head of the Department of the Ministry of Finance, Ivan Chebeskov, said that against the backdrop of international sanctions, “the landing of foreign cryptocurrency exchanges in Russia” became problematic and their interest in opening legal entities in the country has noticeably decreased.
