The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs plans to create a service to combat telephone scammers. A special module called “Anti-fraudster” will be built into the mobile application of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and will be able to notify users that they are calling or writing from a number that is defined as dangerous. The information will be taken from a database of numbers that were previously used for illegal actions.
The department promised to complete work on the new service by December 25, 2021. The contract with the developer was signed in March this year, the cost of the work is 44.9 million rubles. The amount is rather big, but the starting price was even higher – 62.9 million rubles.
Smartphone owners who have installed the Russian Interior Ministry application with the Anti-Fraud module will be able to see suspicious calls that will be blocked and blacklisted. In this case, the user will be able to add a specific number to the white list if the application has blocked it by mistake.
Some operators have similar services that can detect suspicious calls. According to the Bank of Russia, scammers stole about 9 billion rubles from Russians last year. In most cases, they are represented by employees of a particular bank.
