The mosques as a tool of Turkey’s imperialism

Turkey, in order to expand its influence in the Western Balkans and generally to areas that once belonged to the Ottoman Empire, uses mosques as a tool. Deutsche Welle, describing the Turkish strategy, wrote that the Muslim Mosque Namaz Gyah in Tirana, the capital of Albania, with 50 meters high and interior hall, which can welcome about 8,000 faithful, is one of the most impressive Islamic places. It was funded, among other things, with about 30m euros by the Turkish state’s religious affairs Diyanet. His architectural model is Sultan Ahmet Mosque, also known as a blue mosque, in Istanbul. In October 2024, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan went to Tirana for the inauguration of the mosque after about ten years of work.
