The most anticipated Italian films of 2025

New year, new Italian films. After a satisfying 2024 full of titles, among which it stands out Vermilion by Maura Delpero, Italian cinema is preparing for a new year which, at least in its promises, seems promising. The first in chronological order is The blunder Of Roberto Andòthe Sicilian director reassembles the trio that had made the fortune of The strangeness calling together Toni Servillo, Salvatore Ficarra and Valentino Picone. The February 20 the new film by Paolo Genovesetitled FolleMente, which will feature protagonists Edoardo Leo and Pilar Fogliatiwith the cast rounded out by Marco Giallini, Claudia Pandolfi, Rocco Papaleo, Vittoria Puccini and Claudio Santamaria. Instead the new film by Paolo Virzì is called Five secondswith Valerio Mastandrea, Galatéa Bellugi, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Ilaria Spada. The blunder

Directed by Roberto Andò. At the cinema from January 16th.

Set in 1860when Giuseppe Garibaldi commands the expedition of Thousand with which Italy will achieve its unification. Among his most faithful allies is the colonel Vincenzo Giordano Orsini, while among the soldiers two Sicilians: the farmer who migrated to the North, Domenico Tricòand the illusionist Rosario Spitale. In Sicily, a Marsalathe Thousand clash with the Bourbon army without managing to break into Palermo. Garibaldi is not willing and devises a plan: Colonel Orsini together with a group of wounded soldiers will have to act as a diversion, convincing the commander Jean-Luc Von Mechelthat Garibaldi is retreating. Will Garibaldi’s ingenious plan succeed? FolleMente

Directed by Paolo Genovese. At the cinema from February 20th.

How much do we really know about ourselves when we make a decision? FolleMente it’s one romantic comedy which tells the story of a couple about a couple, Piero and Lara (Edoardo Leo and Pilar Fogliati). It goes beyond appearances and immerses itself in the minds of the two protagonists, revealing their most hidden thoughts and their internal battles. In the cast Marco Giallini, Claudia Pandolfi, Rocco Papaleo, Vittoria Puccini and Claudio Santamaria.

The Kite

Directed by Alessandro Tonda. At the cinema from March 6th.

The Kite recounts the twenty-eight days preceding the tragic events of March 4, 2005when Nicola Calipari, Senior Manager of SISMIsacrificed his own life to save that of the journalist Giuliana Sgrenakidnapped in Iraq. In the cast Claudio Santamaria, Sonia Bergamasco, Anna Ferzetti.

Die of her

Directed by Stefano Sardo. From March 6th at the cinema.

Set during the lockdown. tells about Luca (Riccardo Scamarcio) and his wife Sara (Maria Chiara Giannetta). The couple is forced to stay locked in the house and deal with daily coexistence. Luca he is a teacher in crisis who suffers from the fact that Will be is richer than him, and develops an interest in the new neighbor, Amanda (Mariela Garriga), to the point of being obsessed with it.

The American vegetable garden

Directed by Pupi Avati. At the cinema from March 6th.

In Bolognaat the time of the Liberation, a problematic young man with literary aspirations yes he falls in love with a beautiful US Army nurse. Directorial debut for Luca Zingaretti. Marco is 20 years old and a great ability to feel, sense and empathize with the pain of the world, writes poetry, and tries alcohol and drugs forgetfulnessa state of unconsciousness impenetrable even to the anguish of existing and living. The cast includes Gianmarco Franchini, Luca Zingaretti, Federico Tocci, Chiara Celotto, Alessio Moneta, Riccardo Lai, Marco Felli, Cristian Di Sante, Filippo Tirabassi, Katia Greco.

Five seconds

Adriano Sereni (Valerio Mastandrea)is a gruff and solitary man who lives in the renovated stables of Villa Guelfi, an ancient house in ruins. His life is monotonousOne day, he discovers that the nearby villa was occupied by a community of young students and recent graduateswho are dedicated to bringing the countryside and abandoned vineyards back to life. Their arrival annoys him and he chases them away. Among the boys there is Matilde (Galatea Bellugi), the granddaughter of the last Guelph countwho grew up there. Matilde is curious about Adriano and his past and begins to observe it. With the arrival of spring, and then summer, the conflict between Adrian and the young people unexpectedly turns into an alliance. Biopic that tells the life of Goliarda Sapienzaa writer who ends up in prison for a crazy and unexpected gesture. In prison she meets some young inmates who change her life. Once out, in a torrid Roman summer in which time seems suspended, the writer continues to hang out with the women she has befriended and who have now, like her, returned to freedom. A profound and decisive relationship for his life is bornan authentic bond that no one out there will be able to understand. The cast includes Valeria Golino, Matilda De Angelis and Elodie.

Adriatic

Directed by Greta Scarano. Release date to be defined.

Also debut for Greta Scarano as director. Irene is building one regular life in Romewhen it is forced to return to Riminihis hometown to take care of Omar, his 40-year-old autistic brother. He will find out that Omar has clear ideas about his future: he doesn’t want to live with her in any way once his parents are no longer there. He convinces Irene to hold an intensive course for him adulthood which allows him to be autonomous, but above all to make his dreams come true, such as participating in talent which will make him a famous singer.
