The most beautiful photos of Elizabeth II and Philip during the royal tour in the Caribbean

The royal Caribbean tour by William And Kate Middletonmarked by anti-colonial protests, it was not easy. Officially organized to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the Queenthe journey of the dukes, actually born to strengthen relations with the former British colonies, he traced – apparently less successful – the stages of many royal tours of Elizabeth II And Philip.

The sovereign and her husband, who died last April, have in fact visited the Caribbean jewels of the Crown several times over the years. Leafing through the album of memories you (re) discover many beautiful photos of the past (see gallery under). Her Majesty’s first visit to the Caribbean took place in 1953the year ofcoronation: a journey with a high symbolic value, to reaffirm the link between the two countries. In that year, Elizabeth and Philip traveled first to Bermuda and then to Jamaica. The next opportunity came in February 1966, when the couple visited Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, British Guyana, Dominica, Antigua and Turks and Caicos. The photos taken during those trips show us the sovereign and the Duke of Edinburgh on official occasions (such as state dinners) but also in more informal and relaxed moments, with royalty surrounded by partying children or colorful Caribbean dancers.

In 2002on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of the Queen, Elizabeth and Philip in twelve months they traveled over 64,000 kilometers (from the Caribbean to Australia, from Canada to New Zealand). The first stop on the tour was Jamaica, which that year celebrated the fortieth anniversary of independence. The evening before they left, the royal couple attended a official banquet at the King’s House, the residence of the Governor General. But light jumped and the diners found themselves in the dark most absolute. Dinner had to go on candlelight. Elizabeth would later describe that evening with unexpected events as “memorable“.

Since taking the throne the monarch, once a tireless traveler, has visited 120 destinations and covered the equivalent of 42 complete rounds of the world. The last trip was in 2009, with a tour to Trinidad, Tobago and Bermuda. Since, the royal couple passed the baton to subsequent generations, first of all to their son Carlo and his wife Camilla, who visited the Caribbean several times in 2017 and 2019. The last trip of the heir to the throne was last December, during the ceremony in which Barbados proclaimed itself a republic. From me Sandra Masonformer governor on behalf of the queen, took office as head of state in place of Elizabeth IIwhich while expressing sadness he accepted the decision with royal composure. Now even Jamaica, just during the Cambridge tour, has made it known that it intends to say goodbye to the Crown. The Queen is about to lose another of her Caribbean jewels. But to remind her of the times that were, there are many photos. Do you want to see the most beautiful? Browse the gallery under.
