Owners of Fitbit Ionic smartwatches appear to be in danger. Apparently, they have been all these years.

Fitbit has launched a recall campaign after discovering that the watch’s battery can overheat, creating a risk of burns.
After careful investigation, we have determined that in very rare cases, the battery in an Ionic smartwatch can overheat, creating a burn hazard.
The health and safety of Fitbit users is our top priority. We are taking this action as a precaution for our users. We will offer refunds to Fitbit Ionic customers
According to a US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) report, Fitbit has sold about 1 million Ionic devices in the US and about 700,000 devices in the rest of the world. To date, Fitbit has received at least 115 reports in the US and 59 reports in other countries of Ionic battery overheating, including 78 reports of burns in the US. Two reports were for third degree burns and four reports were for second degree burns. Outside the US, there were 40 people affected.
In this situation, it is interesting that the watch entered the market in 2017, and in 2020 its production was completed. As part of the recall campaign, Fitbit is ready to refund the full cost of the watch, i.e. $300.
