The most expensive game in Star Citizen history has raised over $ 350 million and is still not released

Cloud Imperium Games’ video game Star Citizen has set another record in a long-running co-funding program. On the yet-to-be-released project, 3 million fans have already spent $ 350 million.

In June 2020, the project raised $ 300 million, becoming the most expensive game in history. Star Citizen made its last $ 50 million in just nine months. The fundraising campaign began on October 18, 2012, which means that next year the project may celebrate the 10th anniversary of the start of funding. However, Star Citizen has long been one of the most famous long-term construction projects.

Since last summer, three alpha versions of Star Citizen have been released: 3.10, 3.11, and 3.12. Collectively, they brought features such as a new atmospheric flight model, further updates to planetary visuals, new inventory, and physical G-responses and weather elements for characters.

At the end of 2020, Cloud Imperium Games announced that it had decided not to publicly showcase the game’s gameplay anymore. Studio founder Chris Roberts said he would no longer be announcing a release date for the game until it gets closer to the finish line and the team decides on the amount of time it will take to bring the game to its desired quality.

The next major update is due out very soon, bringing with it refineries, planetary caves, as well as visual wear and tear on ships, new missions, and more.
