The most glamorous flip-flops of the summer, which (perhaps) they would also adore in Castiglioncello

A Castiglioncello, a small and picturesque hamlet of Rosignano Marittimo, in the province of Livorno, it seems that public decorum is a matter of great importance. Especially for some inhabitants, who have taken sides against the aesthetics – and, probably, noise pollution – of beach slippers: to express the curious ban on the most popular footwear of the days on the beach, a do-it-yourself sign popped up in via Bengasi, created so well that it appears in all respects as an official road sign.

In fact, the prohibition shows a pair of black flip-flops, drawn on a white background and barred by a red diagonal stripe, accompanied by the writing below that prohibits “slipping”, also translated into English for foreign tourists.

The image is bouncing from one side of the social networks to the other, with pungent comments and a lot of irony, but it also raises a spontaneous question: flip flops are so terrible? Absolutely not. These sandals have been around for thousands of years. Suffice it to say that there is evidence of the first models already from Ancient Egypt, or about 4000 years BC, in papyrus and palm leaves. Specimens of these shoes have also been found in South America, for which the natives used (and do today) the yucca, in Africa, where the Masaai still make them in animal skin, and obviously in China and Japan, where the most ancient sandals were created in rice fiber. IS many models, today, we find them … on the catwalk.

Like every shoe that has existed since the dawn of time (and not), flip-flops have also been reinterpreted countless times by designers, in a more or less elegant way, in line with current trends, with a pop or extremely minimalist touch. In the gallery, the most glamorous of the season, from fashion shows to virtual brand shelves. Sandals that, we are sure, could also appeal to the most anti-slipper citizens of Castiglioncello.
