The most serious crises in the world according to the International Rescue Committee

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) now considers Afghanistan to be the worst humanitarian crisis in the world since the Taliban’s takeover of power, according to the Emergency Watchlist for 2022. in the public domain today Wednesday.

In this list, Ethiopia, where civil war has been raging since November 2020, is in second place. Next is Yemen, where the war has been going on for over seven years.

Nigeria, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Myanmar, Somalia, Syria and Sudan follow this list, which addresses humanitarian crises that the organization expects to worsen in 2022.

According to the IRC, by 2022 some 274 million people will be dependent on humanitarian aid to survive. As early as 2021, the number of people in dire need of help to survive reached 235 million – the highest in decades.

The IRC believes that the international community is responsible for the deterioration of the situation and the increase of needs.

Many countries around the world have not fulfilled their obligations to those seeking protection, while “diplomacy can no longer resolve conflicts, international law no longer protects the civilian population, humanitarian measures can no longer close the widening gaps.”
