«Mattarella, save them». A work by the artist Harry Greb has appeared on the walls of Vicolo del Babuccio in Rome the President of the Republic like Saint Francisin the company of wild animals which, today, are under attack from politics.
Since last January, in fact, the approval of the “wild hunting” amendment, included in the budget law, allows hunters to enter cities and parks as well. Since then, the already limited principles of wildlife protection envisaged by Law 157/92 have been repeatedly trampled upon, so much so that the TAR can no longer suspend hunting calendarseven when they violate European rules to prevent the extinction of huntable species.
For this reason, LAV has launched a national mobilization to ask the intervention of the maximum Guarantor of the Constitution, the President of the Republic. On the other hand, the protection of biodiversity and animals, with the protection of the environment and ecosystems, for almost two years (with an overwhelming majority vote of Parliament) have become – at least in theory – a fundamental principle of the Republic.
«I firmly believe that the intentions expressed in thearticle 9 of the Constitution are a fundamental passage for our lives and that of future generations”, explained the artist Harry Greb. «This is why I am grateful to LAV for involving me in this campaign. We should learn from animals how to guard and protect what surrounds us: we seem to have forgotten this.”

To carry out this battle, the LAV has organized a petition it’s a mobilization in Italian squares for the weekend of 25 and 26 November. «We can no longer tolerate the daily aggression towards wild animals, used as an instrument of political consensus by parliamentarians willing to ignore the lives of millions of animals and the national interest in protecting biodiversity in order to gather some consensus», the association says. «Our mobilization will be the civilized response of the majority of citizens against the obscurantism made of blood and suffering imposed by Parliament». On that occasion, you will be able to sign a postcard that will be delivered to the Quirinale to ask Mattarella for his commitment to respecting Article 9 of the Constitution.
«To the President we ask to recall the Government and Parliament on the acts that prevent the TAR from suspending hunting calendars and that circumvent the ban on the use of lead ammunition in wetlands, and which do not at all represent the protection of animals, biodiversity, environment and ecosystems, as dictated by the fundamental principle of the constitution Article 9, thus integrated a year and a half ago.”
