The murder of a Briton on the streets of Athens in 2018, the nameless tomb and the tragic ending

After a 2.5 year legal battle, the body of a man who was killed in Greece returned home to Manchester, according to an article in the British Guardian. Lee Robinson, 41, was stabbed to death in the streets Athens in December 2018 and his family found out 16 months later, after identification in the Interpol DNA database.

THE British man was buried without disclosing his details, as the Greek authorities had not been able to identify him, notes the post.

The family had lost contact with the 41-year-old three years before his death. Before traveling to Greece he slept in hostels and on the streets of Manchester after a psychological collapse.

In August 2015 he was located in a hostel and brought back to his home, but in October he disappeared again. In December 205, the family opened their bank records and learned that they had bought a plane ticket to Corfu. He notified the police, who informed the relatives that although he was on the list of missing people, he had managed to fly abroad.

They never saw him again. In May 2020, British police showed up at Shelley’s sister’s home and informed her that she had been located. He was stabbed in an accident while sleeping in an abandoned building they used homeless. A 32-year-old confessed and is now in a psychiatric clinic.

“The worst thing was that we learned that it happened so long ago and we went on with our lives,” says Shelley.

Victim Support helped the family find a lawyer to return the body home. It was not easy. The issuance of a new death certificate was just one of the legal hurdles that had to be overcome by Mike Hagan, a travel lawyer in Fletchers, UK, and his Greek counterpart, George Moschos, of Pavlakis Moschos Associates.

The certificate was eventually issued and Robinson’s body repatriated this week and buried in Manchester.

“It’s a tragic case and the family is in a bad psychological state since Lee’s murder. The fact that she was buried in an unmarked grave made her tragic loss even more painful. “We are delighted to have been able to offer some relief to the family, as we have been able to bring his body home and bury it in his homeland, where his friends and family can mourn and say goodbye,” Hagan said.
