Half a century after his death and 12 years after allegations first surfaced that he was murdered on the orders of General Augusto Pinochet’s dictatorship, the death of Chile’s most famous poet, Pablo Neruda, remains a mystery. His death has been investigated for more than a decade, but so far there are no clear conclusions. Medical examiners in Canada, Denmark and elsewhere have searched the poet’s remains in an attempt to determine what killed him, but have been unable to provide a definitive answer.
